I have used purple, warm gray, royal purple, chrome yellow, brown and black colours for the colour forecast of DKNY 2009 F/W collection.
I mixed the warm colour, including chrome yellow, with the cool colours, including purple, black and brown. For the last seasons, we are not difficult to see that Donna Karen would like to use both the warm and cool colours for her collections, so will be in the 2009 collection.
I have chosen the purple color, because it is a cool colour which is quite sharp and it was mixed by the red, which is a warm colour originally, but this time I only use the purple colour in constant chroma and medium value to match with the silence of autumn and winter.
On the other hand, to stand out the total collection, I always put the yellow with purple. It is a little bit like the DKNY 2008 F/W collection, as Donna Karen use the pale orange to stand out the black. However, this time I choose the yellow in a high chroma and tint, instead of the pale one for 2009 F/W collection, it is because more the contrast can draw more attention from the crowded. For the use of purple with yellow, it is the application of the Complimentary Colour Scheme, which is aimed at using colours opposite to each other in the colour wheel.
As the above colourwheel shown in above, the chrome yellow is located opposite to the purple colour exactly, that's what I said about the Complimentary Colour scheme. In addition, these two opposite colours should be one of warm colour(chrome yellow) and one of cool colour(purple).
Moreover, I also applied the SplitComplimentary Colour scheme for my collection, the scheme is similar to the complimentary colour scheme, but we should choose the adjacent colours 30º each way of the compliment. In my collection, I always match the purple, chrome yellow and brown together, those three colours located in the colourwheel is exactly what the shape like the SplitComplimentary colour scheme.
